Spring is officially here! The season of transformation and growth – and a good time to focus on new beginnings.
As the days get longer and warmer, people often begin to feel lighter, both emotionally and physically and to look towards new things.
Spring is the perfect time to get active outside and gardening can be particularly calming and therapeutic, whether you have a big space or a small corner. It’s known to help brighten moods, reduce stress and feelings of depression and even lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
If you want some company while you work, you could join a local gardening group or get your kids or grandchildren to join in! Gardening is a great way to get kids active and it helps to boost their immune system too, exposing them to common bacteria naturally found in earth and soil.
Your garden, plant pots or even a simple window-box can be an especially welcome food source for the struggling bee population too. A little planting now will really improve the production of local honey in the coming months which could have a beneficial effect on all your family’s immunity!
Being sociable and having people around you who are supportive and encouraging can have a really positive effect on our wellbeing. Joining a group or even just popping out for a coffee with a friend feels much easier when the weather gets warmer and brighter.
And, according to Chinese medicine, this is the time of year to really support your liver, the organ associated with Spring.
Try adding some sour foods like vinegar and lemon into your dishes and think about zesty flavours. Livening up your meals with mint, spring onions, ginger, horseradish, mustard, and pepper can leave you feeling clear and invigorated.
We’ve got a variety of activities planned at on route for this Spring that can support your wellbeing in different ways. From yoga to gardening groups, body therapies and counselling and a welcoming café – all in the heart of South Ealing. We’ve even got plans for a self-powered “Smoothie Bike” – watch out for more details coming soon!
Happy Spring and see you soon!
